Winter 2024 - Early Bird Prize - $200,000 Robbie Schwartz, Toronto
Looking back a few decades to when she and her four children bought Heart & Stroke Lottery tickets, Robbie recalls: “I bought the ticket knowing that a family win would be fun. It was also a way to let them know how important it is to help others.” She adds: “When I won this draw, they joked that we should have kept up that tradition!”
Of the win, she says: “We were overseas visiting my granddaughter when we received emails from the Heart & Stroke Lottery, saying they’d tried to call to tell me I was a winner. I said to my husband, ‘Do you really think this happened? Are we really getting this?’ I couldn’t believe it.”
Robbie kept mum on the win until she returned home: “When my brother told me my name was on the website, I knew it was legitimate – the next question was, what am I going to do with this money?”
As someone whose values have always included giving back, she says: “If money or income comes in, I give 10% to charity. I’m in the process of figuring out how to spread my joy around – Heart & Stroke will be a part of that.”
